Walking routes in Lancashire
Walking
Tewitfield Marina is located on the Lancaster Canal towpath, so you can leave the car behind and walk straight from the Marina to Carnforth and beyond. There are also hundreds of walking routes in the surrounding Lancashire countryside. The Lake District and Yorkshire Dales National Parks are also both just a short drive away. We even have a dog wash in case your pup gets mucky on your adventures.
Visit the Lake District National Park website for more information on the best walking routes in the area.
The Canal and the Lancashire Coastal Way
Explore the vast coastline of Morecambe Bay and its unique biosphere, one of the best places in Europe to spot wading waterfowl. The sands are very beautiful but even near the shore there are quicksands and hidden channels. We would advise visitors to be aware of fast-rising tides. If you take a stroll along the promenade at Arnside, you may be lucky enough to witness a local spectacle, ‘The Bore’. This is a tidal wave caused by the surge of the incoming tide against the resistance of the bay’s sand and channels. It is said to come in faster than a galloping horse!
